'Thor: Ragnarok' Casting News: Tessa Thompson's Role as Valkyrie Revealed?

Marvel

The mysterious role of "Veronica Mars" alum Tessa Thompson in "Thor: Ragnarok" might have been leaked.

Deadline announced that Thompson, who also appears with Anthony Hopkins on HBO's original drama series "Westworld," was tapped to portray a superhero role that is also set to appear in other movies under the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

But Latino Review revealed that several sources claim that Thompson will take on the role of Marvel's version of Valkyrie.

The report said that based on the comic book series, Valkyrie is the title given to the character named Brunnhilde when Odin chose her to lead the Valkyrior or the Asgard citizens who wander all over the battlefield and choose the honorable dead to enter Valhalla.

The character is also known as one of the longtime members of The Defenders, and she joined the group when they released her from the clutches of the evil Enchantress. Valkyrie is also said to have the same powers as Thor, and she was known as his enemy, his friend, and his love interest over time. This could possibly add more elements of excitement when "Thor: Ragnarok" comes out.

Other reports claim that Cate Blanchett will take on the role of the ruthless villain Hela, who will instigate a highly destructive war between the forces of the Valkyries from Valhalla and the dark souls from Heimdall.

"Thor: Ragnarok" will be the third installment of Marvel's "Thor" movie franchise. It will feature the return of Chris Hemsworth as Thor in the movies. Other returning cast members include Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. However, there is no word yet regarding the possible return of Natalie Portman in her role as Jane Foster in the upcoming film.

Marvel's "Thor: Ragnarok" is slated to premiere on November 3, 2017.
