Tom Hiddleston's Loki has been a driving force during the first two phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, becoming the main villain in "Avengers" and eventually taking over Asgard in "Thor: The Dark World." However, in an interview with The Daily Beast, the actor revealed that "Thor: Ragnarok" may be his last time portraying the character.

"'Thor 3' will be cool because I've not done it for four years. I love working with Chris Hemsworth. This will be my last time out of the gate," he explained. 

However, when asked if it was confirmed he wouldn't appear in "Avengers: Infinity War," he kept the possibility open, stating, "I don't know! Honestly, I don't know. They haven't got their ducks in a row yet. They make it up as they go along."

Fans speculate that this may mean Hiddleston has not yet been offered a new contract to sign, which would bring him back in future films, but there is always the possibility of Marvel offering him an extension sometime in the future similar to how an extension was offered to Robert Downey Jr. to keep him portraying Tony Stark aka Iron Man. 

While it isn't confirmed at this point, many speculate that Loki will be the main driving force yet again in the third "Thor" film as he has disguised himself as Odin (Anthony Hopkins). It is hinted that he will be the reason why the titular Ragnarok event -- the end of the world in Norse mythology -- will take place as he will bring in the film's main villain.

Speculations about this main villain point to three different possibilities: Hela, the Goddess of Niflheim and is also Loki's daughter; Surtr the King of the Fire-Giants; and Thanos (Josh Brolin) himself. Actress Cate Blanchett has been rumored but never confirmed to be stepping in as Hela, giving more credence to the possibility of Hela being the villain.

"Thor: Ragnarok" opens in theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
