'Thor: Ragnarok' release date, plot news: Doctor Strange to make an appearance?

Will Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange appear in "Thor: Ragnarok"?Marvel Studios

It looks like Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will get a bit of help from a good friend with his latest dealings in the character's third solo outing, "Thor: Ragnarok."

The mid-credits scene for the Benedict Cumberbatch's Marvel debut revealed that both the god of thunder and his brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), are looking for their father. This is what they will be up to in "Thor: Ragnarok."

"I keep a watch list of individuals and beings from other realms that may be a threat to this world. Your adopted brother Loki is one of those beings. So, why bring him here to New York?" Strange asks Thor at the Sanctum Sanctorum.

This is where the former revealed that Odin is indeed missing and they are hoping to find him in New York. As revealed in "Thor: Ragnarok" set photos, Thor and Loki's father is on Earth.

"So if you found Odin, you'd all adjourn to Asgard?" Strange asks, which Thor answered in the affirmative. The sorcerer sees this as an opportunity to make sure Loki does not thrash New York again like he did in the past (in the first "Thor" film).

He ultimately pledges to help Thor, which leads many to believe that Cumberbatch will reprise his role in "Thor: Ragnarok."

This also lines up with a set photo showing Thor wearing the outfit he was sporting in the "Doctor Strange" mid-credits scene, holding a business card that has the address of the Sanctum Sanctorum.

That being said, Cumberbatch might actually slip into the role of Doctor Strange once again earlier than fans expected. However, the extent of his possible involvement in "Thor: Ragnarok" remains unknown.

It is a safe bet that the entirety of the mid-credits scene in "Doctor Strange" will be shown in "Thor: Ragnarok" as this is what Marvel Studios likes to do.

An example is the end-credits scene in "Ant-Man" featuring Captain America (Chris Evans) and Falcon (Anthony Mackie) finding Bucky (Sebastian Stan), which ended up in "Captain America: Civil War."

"Thor: Ragnarok" will be released Nov. 3, 2017.
