Christians are being invited to celebrate Pentecost on May 20 with an ecumenical gathering at London's Methodist Central Hall Westminster as a finale to the global missional prayer movement Thy Kingdom Come.

The family-friendly worship night will include contributions from the archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, will conclude 10 days of prayer between Ascension and Pentecost for those who have not yet become Christians.

The ecumenical 'Beacon' event is hosted by the Methodist Church of Great Britain and will also feature Rev Gareth Powell, secretary of the Methodist Conference, Rev Loraine Mellor, president of the Conference) and Pastor Agu Irukwu, senior pastor at Jesus House. 

Musician Pete James, who wrote the song 'Your Kingdom Come', will lead worship alongside the Jesus House Choir at the free ticketed event.

Rev Tony Miles, acting superintendent of the Central Hall, said: 'We are delighted to be hosting this ecumenical event. It seems highly appropriate that Christians gather together in one place at Pentecost and wait expectantly in prayer together.'

The Thy Kingdom Come began as a simple prayer movement in 2016, led by the Anglican Archbishops of Canterbury and York, but has since become an international ecumenical movement, with more than 85 countries across the world taking part in the movement last year. The Beacon event is one amongst several happening across the UK, with organisers expecting thousands of churches to be celebrating Thy Kingdom Come.

Thy Kingdom Come's 'global wave of prayer' is scheduled to take place from 10-20 May.
