"Titanfall 2" is set to launch on Oct. 28, and reviews thus far are quite positive, pointing out how its single-player campaign is a major improvement from the original game, which had no single-player campaign and focused entirely on multiplayer. However, when it does launch to the public, it will require gamers to download a day one patch.

Fortunately, as reported by Gamespot, the patch is quite small as it is only 88 MB in size. This file is required as it adds in several stability fixes for bugs and glitches, and it also adds some more features into the game.

The report points out that the size of the day one patch is notably small when compared to the day one patches of other video games. It is stated that the day one patch for "Halo 5: Guardians" was 9 GB while the patch for "Gears of War 4" was 11 GB. The latter's update patch was only for those who had purchased the physical version of the game.

It is further stated that "Titanfall 2" had gone gold, indicating it had reached a certain number of pre-orders and sales. When games are labeled gold, the publishers start manufacturing physical discs even though it is still weeks ahead of the game's official release. The developers may still be working on the game even while the discs are being made.

Because of this, a day one patch is needed to properly update the game and give it the features that were made while the discs were in production. Some publishers start making discs months before a game's release, with so much content missing, which is why their day one patches can be so large.

It is noted that some games, like "Final Fantasy XV," are delayed intentionally to avoid the need of releasing a day one patch. It is possible that "Titanfall 2" had only a few details left to develop while the discs were being produced, explaining the small patch size.

"Titanfall 2" will be released for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on Oct. 28.
