There has been no official news whether "Tokyo Ghoul" will be getting a new season, though fans are eagerly anticipating the manga series' renewal. Meanwhile, one of the reasons that might be causing delay for a new season is the live action remake set to premiere this year.

The Japanese dark fantasy manga series created by Sui Ishida, "Tokyo Ghoul," follows the story of protagonist Ken Kaneki as the first half-human, half-ghoul hybrid. Ken was turned into this monstrous hybrid after he was rescued from his ghoul date Rize from being eaten.

As part of his new identity, Ken discovers a whole new world of being a ghoul.

Season 2 of "Tokyo Ghoul" last aired in March 2015, and fans of the dark series have been anticipating when Pierrot will be launching a renewed installment.

One of the reasons that might be causing the delay of "Tokyo Ghoul" to be renewed for season 3 is because of the live action remake set to premiere this year.

Comicbook notes that launching a third season might overshadow the live action remake of "Tokyo Ghoul." The producers behind the live action remake are aiming high for this film and they already have plans of creating a sequel, even though "Tokyo Ghoul" has not yet hit theaters.

Meanwhile, another reason for the delay of a new season of "Tokyo Ghoul" is the bad reviews on season 2.

According to reports, Studio Pierrot is discouraged to create a new season because of how the fans and critics alike reacted to the pacing, characterization, and liberal timeline tweaking in "Tokyo Ghoul."

If Studio Pierrot wants to redeem "Tokyo Ghoul" with its fans, it is suggested that they go through the remaining 120 chapters created by Ishida that have not yet been used.

The live action remake of "Tokyo Ghoul" is anticipated to premiere this 2017.
