A new arc has been unveiled for the "Tokyo Ghoul: re" series. The manga adaptation is said to go forward with more thrilling events as Ken Kaneki puts up his own organization meant to oppose CCG. An inevitable fight with Nimura also seems imminent.

Chapter 99 opens up a month after the events which saw Kaneki waking up from a deep sleep. Although there is a time skip, the recent events have been outlined once more in the chapter, confirming the deaths of Arima and Haisaki, and that the CCG-related events were plotted by Take and Kaneki.

Upon being awakened by Touka, it has been revealed that Take and the members of squad 0 already left for :re.

Meanwhile, a strong hint on what will happen in the succeeding chapters was teased on the past chapter. Upon convening past comrades in the secret facility built by Shuu Tsukiyama, Kaneki announced his intention of being the new One-Eyed King. It is revealed that Kaneki intends to continue one of the wishes of the past King: for humans and ghouls to co-exist. However, he also hints that force can also be applied, and he declared that he is creating a new anti-human organization to directly oppose the CCG which he dubbed as GOAT.

With the proclamation, it is hinted that Kaneki will collide directly with Nimura, as the latter has proclaimed himself the Washuu King after a successful coup d'état in the clan. In addition, as an illegitimate son of CCG chairman Tsuneyoshi Washuu, Nimura is expected to go head-to-head with Kaneki, while CCG is on a direct collision with the newly-founded GOAT.

With the inevitable fight happening at the start of the new arc, fans are expecting an all-out war, although who will come out on top is yet unknown. Nimura is like Kaneki, an artificial one-eyed ghoul, receiving his ghoul-related skills from Rize Kamishiro.
