News has emerged that "Tokyo Ghoul" will have a live-action film soon. The male and female lead artist were already named, as well as the director. Now, fans of the anime series are still waiting for its third season.

Masataka Kubota, who starred in the live-action films "Death Note" and "Mars, as well as in TV series "Photo Braver 7," will play Ken Kaneki, the protagonist. His counterpart will be Fumika Shimizu, also known for starring in "My Neighbor Seki," "HK/Hentai Kamen," "Kamen Rider Fourze" and "Mare," and will play the heroine Touka Kirishima, Anime News Network reported.

Additionally, the upcoming adaptation will be helmed by Kentarō Hagiwara ("Super Star") and is scheduled to have its principal photography starting this month until September. The film is slated to be released next summer in Japan.

It is rumored that the upcoming film will take its inspiration from the manga, which the anime also does.

Meanwhile, anime fans are concerned about "Tokyo Ghoul's" third season. It should have been confirmed by now, but no official news has been announced so far. It was speculated earlier that it will arrive by either fall or winter this year or by mid-2017.

Meanwhile, GameNGuide stated that an anonymous writer connected to the anime's development claimed that the story for the upcoming season will have a very dark theme.

"This is perhaps the most disillusioning, psychological and darkest plot line that we will attempt to adapt," the tipster said.

The person added, "We hope to remain as faithful as possible to the source material, although we cannot guarantee that more gory scenes such as Touka's standardized exam test-taking will not be censored."

The report also mentioned Haise Sasaki to be the protagonist for the upcoming season, who is actually Ken Kaneki who opted to be a Ghoul investigator instead.
