"Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 is already being met with a lot of contempt from the fans of the original manga, given how Studio Pierrot has handled the anime adaptation thus far. Despite the negative feedback, the studio is still moving forward with season 3, which, according to a report from Inquisitr, is expected to launch this summer.

The studios have yet to announce an official release date, but given how season 1 was launched in July, fans have speculated that season 3 will launch in late June or early July. This may also give the studios some more time to wait for the newer manga chapters to release in order for them to stay more faithful to the source material. 

At the time being, only 43 chapters of the manga series have been out, which means season 3 is likely to bypass the events of the manga, forcing it to take its own direction in regards to the story and characters. It is for this reason that season 3 will focus on Touka Kirisihima instead of main character Ken Kaneki.

This has been done before with the "Fullmetal Alchemist" series. An anime was initially launched while the manga was still in production, which forced the anime to go in a completely different direction. A second anime series, "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood," was later released and this version closely followed the manga from beginning to end.

Inquisitr points out that season 3 may be the final straw for Studio Pierrot and that if this new direction fails, the fans are already asking for the manga creator to consider giving the anime production responsibilities to a more distinguished studio such as Production I.G. or Bones in order to get an anime that is more faithful to the manga.

Studio Pierrot has not yet announced any plans for the future of the franchise and it is speculated that season 3 and any OVA that launches with it will indeed be their last attempt at tackling "Tokyo Ghoul."
