'Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands' release date: Upcoming game playable with friends

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands Ubisoft

"Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands" is the upcoming game for the Ghost Recon franchise which started back in 2001. Now, developer Ubisoft has shown some of the things that gamers can expect of its offering for next year. The company made it clear that the game will be most enjoyable with friends, as the company demoed the co-op multiplayer mode during the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016 last week.

The game is set in Bolivia, where players are part of a military branch that doesn't exist. Players will be part of a large and interactive open world to take down the vicious Santa Blanca drug cartel. Players are given an objective, and it is up to them what they want to do to achieve the goal. A mission may go on quietly, and they can snatch a target and interrogate later, or let all weapons loose.

Each of the four players will be carrying a portable drone for scouting and planning purposes. Players will have a grip on the number of bad guys in the target are, have a feel of the surroundings, and use it to strategize the next moves.

Additionally, "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands" offers a lot of vehicles to commandeer, dirt bikes or off-road vehicles, to pursue their targets who try to escape, get to the next objective, or during extraction. The four-man team can also use a single vehicle, but one must take the wheel and drive while the others pick the targets one after the other. During the demonstration, a helicopter was also shown controlled by the player.  It is armed with with machine guns that can light up anything down below.

Meanwhile, the cartel is headed by El Sueño, a Mexican in origin, who at age 12 became a hitman for the cartel. He is described as "Brutal and religious, El Sueño is a brilliant leader. Insightful and reflective, he instills loyalty in those he meets. The cartel builds schools and churches, and offers jobs for those who follow their leader. However, none should ever try to challenge him."

"Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands" is set to be released on March 7, 2017 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. The game is available for pre-order, which will come with a bonus and one additional mission, "The Peruvian Connection."
