PC gamers may soon be able to tuck into remastered versions of the "Tomb Raider" trilogy. Realtech VR, who previously worked on ports of the well-received, first two installments of "Tomb Raider" for mobile, has revealed that they are planning to bring back some of Lara Croft's greatest adventures via Steam.

Responding to a fan on Twitter, the developer said the modern remasters will be based on "Tomb Raider 1" and 2 mobile versions and will be free to those who already own the titles. This time, they are looking to support OpenVR and utilize a new 3D engine to make the gaming experience better than ever. A range of graphics options and X-box controller support are on the cards as well.

The company promised that the new 3D engine would be "even better" than the existing mobile port as it comes with real shadows and 64bit support. Also, the PC version would let players save anywhere. It is unlikely that the remasters will have Mac support, but Realtech VR did say that porting to Linux "should be possible."

The "Tomb Raider" remasters has no release date at the moment. Realtech VR later clarified on its Twitter page that the PC remasters have not been endorsed by publisher Square Enix and that the mod is just "a working idea" which has yet to receive the green light. They then tweeted an apology, saying they cannot further discuss until Square Enix releases an official statement.

If Realtech's plans come to fruition, though, Comic Book predicts the remasters may come out sometime this summer to coincide with the home release of the "Tomb Raider" reboot on Blu-Ray and DVD. Fans can only keep their fingers crossed for now.

In the meantime, they can catch Alicia Vikander's Lara Croft on the big screen. Still based on the 2013 game of the same name, it opens in cinemas this Friday, March 16.
