The highly successful video game film adaptation of "Tomb Raider" will be rebooted which has made fans of the franchise elated and anticipative. The film's producer recently revealed the plot of the upcoming feature.

In an interview with Hey U Guys, Graham King said that the film reboot will tackle about Lara Croft's journey to investigate if her father, Lord Richard James Croft, is still alive or not. King added that they'll be putting some heart into the story as it will be quite poignant as compared to the previous films that were released in the early 2000s.

However, given that it is a reboot, Angelina Jolie isn't expected to reprise the iconic role. It has been revealed that Swedish actress Alicia Vikander has been tapped for the part since the film will showcase a younger version of the female protagonist.

The 28-year-old actress is said to be undergoing vigorous exercise routines and training together with her partner Michael Fassbender who also stars in the equally anticipated film adaptation of the acclaimed video game franchise, "Assassin's Creed."

It was also mentioned that the film will be based on the video game "Tomb Raider: Origins" developed by Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics that was released over three years ago. In addition, it was the 10th episode in the game series that was made available to all major game platforms.

To recall, the first film adaptation released in 2001 was praised by critics and fans alike. However, its sequel, "Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life" was panned by film pundits which could've resulted in Jolie veering away from the role.

The film reboot of "Tomb Raider" will be helmed by director Roar Uthaug and is slated to be released on March 18, 2018.
