According to a report from Game Informer, Activision and Robomodo are releasing a new "Tony Hawk" game, "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5," and it will be coming out this year but only for current-gen consoles. The PS4 and Xbox One will see the title before the end of 2015 but the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will be released "shortly thereafter."

No specific date for the release has been announced but Activision and Robomodo have given gamers a few sneak peek photos and some details regarding the game's features. For the most part, it appears that the game will harken back to the old "Tony Hawk" titles developed by NeverSoft.

As indicated by the title, "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5" is a direct sequel to the 2002 "Pro Skater 4" game. The report states "Pro Skater 5" will go back to the classical gameplay of the old "Pro Skater" titles, using the face-buttons and analog sticks to perform and chain trick moves.

This means there may not be any unnecessary peripherals like the skateboard used for "Tony Hawk Ride" or the use of motion controls such as those used in "Tony Hawk Motion" and "Tony Hawk Shred." "Pro Skater 5" stands as a back-to-basics skating game.

However, the report also states that some new elements will be included such as power-ups and projectile shooting. These may play a part in the game's co-op and competitive modes, making it similar to the balloon-popping mode in "Mario Kart" titles.

"Pro Skater 5" will see the return of the create-a-park feature but this time, custom parks can now be shared online. Classic parks from older games in the franchise will also see a revamped return in the game.

Tony Hawk will be playable, along with other known skaters such as Riley Hawk, Lizzie Armanto, Nyjah Huston, Leticia Bufoni, Aaron Homoki, Andrew Reynolds, Ishod Wair, Chris Cole, and David Gonzalez.
