The Toronto Maple Leafs settled everything with goaltender Jonathan Bernier as they signed him to a two-year extension deal reportedly worth $8.3 million which will earn him $4.15 million annually.

Bernier and the Maple Leafs had an arbitration hearing Friday with the goalie asking for a $5.1 million contract while the team countered with a one-year, $2.89 million deal.

But everything is okay now as they arrived on a new contract for the goalie Sunday.

"I was happy we were able to get a deal done. Now I can focus on training camp and get ready for the season," Bernier said in a statement tweeted by the Maple Leafs.

The 26-year-old goaltender also said, "I want to be part of the Maple Leafs and this rebuild."

Bernier played in 58 games last season and was 21-28-7 with a 2.87 goals-against average (GAA) plus a .912 save percentage.

"We were able to come up with a fair situation for both Jonathan and the team. He is a National Hockey League goalie. He doesn't have to prove anything," Maple Leafs general manager Lou Lamoriello said as tweeted by the Maple Leafs.

He added, "He has the ability, there's no question. ... It's getting everybody (the whole team) going."

Bernier was the 11th overall pick in 2006 by the Los Angeles Kings where he spent his first five NHL seasons before joining the Maple Leafs in 2013 via a trade deal. 

In a total of seven seasons in the NHL playing for the Kings and Maple Leafs, Bernier is 76-67-20 with a 2.63 GAA and .916 save percentage also tallying nine shutouts

Following a disastrous season for Toronto, they hired new head coach Mike Babcock and Bernier said he is excited to work with their new coach and be part of the team's rebuilding process. 

Bernier is optimistic about the Maple Leafs' plans and he believes they are headed in the right direction.
