The "Transformers" franchise has been one of the most lucrative in recent film history, but the next installment of it could be dramatically different.

Perhaps the biggest reason why "Transformers 5" could be different is because director Michael Bay will reportedly no longer be calling the shots for the next movie.

According to Cinema Blend, Bay has indicated that he has plans outside of the "Transformers," sharing that he has some other types of stories he would like to tell onscreen. However, this is not the first time Bay has shared that he wants to move on from the "Transformers" franchise. As of now, it appears as though Bay is still uncertain about his plans, meaning it would not be a surprise either way if he decides to leave the "Transformers" franchise for good, or if he decides to return for at least one more round.

If Bay does ultimately decide to bid farewell to the "Transformers" franchise, then it appears as though the people behind the series will need to make some moves. Director/producer/screenwriter Akiva Goldsman has reportedly been brought in to work on "Transformers 5," according to Deadline, although it was reported that he will be working with Bay instead of replacing him, leaving Bay's post open as of now.

As for whether or not Mark Wahlberg might return for "Transformers 5," the situation remains similarly murky. Wahlberg's previous working experience with Bay undoubtedly helped convince him to sign up for the project, and with the director reportedly bowing out, he could follow in his footsteps.

The next "Transformers" film is also expected to strike a tone that is different from its predecessors', as it will reportedly focus more on the robots as opposed to the human characters.

Even if the director, lead actor, and storyline of "Transformers 5" may not yet be known, it is believed that those details will begin to come out soon given that the movie is also expected to come out by June 24, 2016.
