Tensions are still running high after that action-packed final minutes of HBO's crime drama "True Detectives," but viewers already need to prepare themselves for another thrilling episode this Sunday.

In "Other Lives," Ray (Colin Farrell), Ani (Rachel McAdams) and Paul (Taylor Kitsch) must make sense of what truly transpired in that bloody, turbulent shootout. The new promo of episode 5 reveals that although the suspects for the Ben Caspere murder are already dead, the case is still far from over. According to the International Business Times, instead of giving closure to the investigation, the deadly encounter between the cops and the bad boys could only be the beginning. 

Meanwhile, fans will also see some hardcore drama in the next episode, as the personal lives of the detectives will be laid bare. It appears that Ray will be battling with his ex-wife for the custody of their son Chad (Trevor Larcom) while Paul will be called "a closeted gay man" by his own mother. 

Last episode, the three officers led a raid on a building that prime suspect Ledo Amarilla (Cesar Garcia) and his gang were reportedly hiding. What happened next was extreme carnage. A set of civilians who were protesting the planned rail line for want of better public transportation got in the way. Amidst the firefight and car chase, the suspect's fleeing SUV rammed into a bus that showed up in the middle of the street.

Reaching his tether's end, Ledo grabbed a man and held him hostage. As Paul and Ray tried to get a clear shot of the pimp, Ledo blasted the poor guy's head. The two took him down in a spray of bullets. At the end of the bloody shootout, the only ones left standing were the three - Ani, Ray and Paul. Their entire SWAT team was annihilated, as well as a handful of civilians. 

In an interview with Variety, McAdams shared how grueling it was to film episode 5. According to her, it took the team five days to finish the entire scene. "That was pretty intense. I actually puked during that scene. When I was running and reloading my gun — it actually wound up being about 200 yards, it was like two football fields — and I was just going all out and we did it a couple of times," the actress stated.

McAdams also said that she took time to prepare herself physically for the action-packed episode by running in her spare time. Sadly, it did not pay off for her.

"It was my own fault. I had been drinking that EmergenC and going hard to just try to keep my energy up. Not a good combination, the running and that. But I kind of felt bada–. Like yeah, let's do it again. It was really fun though. I like action. I like being thrust into that," McAdams shared.

"True Detective" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
