For a while now, Home Box Office Inc. has kept everyone in the dark about "True Detective" season two.

Everyone has relied on speculations and rumors about what to expect from the new season. Thankfully, HBO officials broke their silence and confirmed details regarding the show's filming location.

HBO confirmed that the setting of "True Detective" season two will be in California, The Hollywood Reporter  reports. The cast and crew will use the entire state as a setting for the season.

HBO programming director Michael Lombardo was the one who spilled the beans, including the start date of shooting as well as the season's air date.

"We're going to start shooting in September for it to air next summer," Lombardo said. "[It has] different characters, a different setting. It's set in California, all of California. There are three cops. One of the characters is female. I think that's probably all I'm allowed to say. We'll probably be announcing casting soon."

Lombardo also shared what makes season two of the Nic Pizzolatto series different from season one. His statement comes after reading part of the script and some episode outlines.

Lombardo stated: "When you have a success like 'True Detective' it's challenging, less for us and more for someone like Nic. How to face the page again, start fresh and not be haunted by the success of the show you've just done. But the writing is better than last season. It's exceptional."

Lombardo's statements prove the rumors to be true, all while adding an additional piece of information: all of California will be used as the show's setting as opposed to only a Southern California setting.

Now, fans must wait for the show's casting announcements to be made.
