HBO dropped the names of who will join the second season of "True Detective." The show will still feature the anthology format, but with a new plot and a fresh batch of characters.

It was finally confirmed that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will play the male leads of season 2 in the hit drama. According to the press release from HBO, Farrell will play the role of Ray Velcoro, a detective torn between his two masters – the police department and a mobster.  Vaughn, on the other hand, will play the role of Frank Semyon, who is a criminal at the end of losing his career when he decided to go straight but is upset by the murder of a business partner.

Although the male leads are already confirmed, the spot for the female lead is still empty. The female lead is a "no nonsense" Californian sheriff named Ani Bezzerides who will have a dark past with gambling and alcoholism issues. According to reports, seven actresses are up for the role. Top actresses Elisabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams are said to be shortlisted for the role.

Showrunner Nic Pizzolatto confirmed that the show will be directed by various directors. "The Fast and The Furious" director Justin Lin is reportedly in negotiation to direct the first two episodes of the TV series. Filming will resume in a lesser known town in California.

According to reports, the plot will focus on the new detectives who will try to solve the death of 52-year-old Ben Caspar. The man was killed and dumped on a highway with occult symbols scratched on his chest.

Previous reports cited HBO's head of programming who said that production should start in September, but with an incomplete list of cast, the filming will be delayed. The second season of "True Detective" is slated to be back in summer.
