Try out your footballing skills with Emile Heskey

Budding British footballers will get the chance to take on England international Emile Heskey in a five-a-side football tournament being organised by a Christian organisation.

Love Life UK, headed by retired soccer ace Bruce Dyer, is running the competition at Powerleague in Barnsley, south Yorkshire, on Bank Holiday Monday, on August 29.

Dyer was the country’s first £1 million teenager who played for Crystal Palace, Sheffield United and Barnsley in a glittering career. He is a committed Christian who hosts gospel events for youngsters and visits prisons.

The competition is expected to attract teams from all parts of the UK, with the winners taking on a ‘Love Life All Stars’ line-up, which will be headlined by Aston Villa ace Heskey, as well as Dyer, Tottenham Hotspur’s John Bostock, Barnsley captain Bobby Hassell, ex-Premier League defender Darren Moore and Sheffield Wednesday striker Clinton Morrison.

“It’s a five a side tournament with group stages and then knockout, and the tournament winners will take on the All Star team,” said Dyer.

“We have current and retired players who will be taking part, so it promises to be a great opportunity for a team to play against some professional footballers.

“The ethos of Love Life is that Jesus came to give us life to the full, and we try and put on these events to show that Christians can have lots of fun! We hope that teams will travel from all parts of the country and support this event.”

Former England Under 21 striker Dyer said there would also be fair rides, food stalls, bouncy castles and live music at the event.

“It promises to be a good day out for the whole family,” he added.

The winners, as well as taking on the All Star team, will receive a £250 cash prize and a free kit.
