British TV presenter Simon Thomas has said the sudden loss of his wife to cancer was the "biggest test" of his Christian faith.

In an interview with BBC Breakfast on Wednesday, Thomas recounted how he struggled to tell his son about the loss of his wife, Gemma, who passed away in November 2017 just three days after being diagnosed with a type of blood cancer known as acute myeloid leukemia.

He said that telling his son, Ethan, that his mother is gone was "the most crushing, brutal thing you will ever have to say to anyone."

Thomas said that Ethan had difficulty dealing with the loss especially seeing his other friends with their families.

"And for the most part he's playing like he would have done any other time, but quite often when it's home time or they leave, he goes very quiet and often the tears begin to flow," Thomas said according to Daily Mail.

Thomas, a former anchor with Sky Sports, explained that Gemma's passing was "biggest test" of his Christian faith, but he noted that he continues to hold on to his belief in God.

"If I take God out of the equation, the faith that I've had throughout my life, then the hope disappears because the hope is that one day I see Gemma again," he explained.

The TV presenter contended that it was impossible to get through the loss of his wife without being changed, but he hopes that he will eventually "come out a better person."

Thomas thinks that people in the U.K. have a difficult time expressing their grief. He explained that many people do not like talking about grief and try to present a "strong front," but he has found that there are those who really want to discuss it, but just need acknowledgement.

Thomas shares some of his experiences and recollections of his wife through a blog called "A Grief Shared."

According to InYourArea.co.uk, his supporters have sent him letters and gifts through Nomad Bakery, a shop that he visits regularly in Caversham.

On Sunday, Thomas marked his wife's 41st birthday by posting a photo on Twitter with the caption: "To the girl I struggle to live without. Happy Birthday. I will never ever stop loving you."

Gemma Thomas was known for her support of charities during her life and the couple had launched their own campaign to provide for the basic needs of child refugees prior to her passing.

Since the death of his wife, Thomas has been campaigning to raise awareness about the symptoms of blood cancer.
