Winter is coming and so are some great TV shows that will surely make the cold dreary nights a welcome treat – a great time to curl up on the couch and watch good TV. Syfy will premier one big series while Showtime and PBS will also debut their own drama series. 

Syfy will be releasing a new TV series in December. "The Expanse" has the scale it needs to impress viewers, thanks to the physical sets the studio decided to construct for the new show. The story revolves around three characters: a detective named Josephus Miller (Thomas Jane); an ice freighter executive officer named Jim Holden (Steven Strait); and a U.N. undersecretary by the name of Chrisjen Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo). The series is set 200 years into the future when humans have a colony in Mars and in Ceres, and during a time when Earth and Mars are embroiled in a cold war that is threatening to become a full scale war. "The Expanse" will air on Dec. 14. 

In January, Showtime will also be releasing a new show. "Billions" will air starting Jan. 17 and it tells a story about wealth, influence, and corruption. The struggles of these opposing elements are personified between two driven individuals – U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Giamatti) and Bobby Axelrod (Lewis). This contemporary drama is set behind New York City finance and politics, and plays along a predator-prey narrative between a man of law and a man of wealth. 

On the same day, PBS will air its new series, "Mercy Street." This new show is based on a true story set during the Civil War in Virginia. The year is 1862 and two volunteers from the opposing sides of the war are trying their best to help men wounded from the bloody struggle. Mary Phinney (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), an abolitionist, and Emma Green (Hannah James), a confederate girl, strive to survive at a time of violent civil unrest with their world meeting at Mansion House, a transformed Union Army Hospital.
