Two years ago, fans had a bittersweet farewell with the "Twilight" saga. There couldn't have been a better ending to the trilogy than "Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2." However, the fans' attachment to the books and the movies still keep them yearning for more of the vampires and the werewolves that they've come to love.

Now, two years later, there's a sudden glimmer of hope for all "Twilight" fans. Lions Gate announced that, in partnership with Facebook, they are financing five short films based on the "Twilight" Saga. The New York Times has confirmed the news.

In line with the making of the short films, Lions Gate is launching "The Storytellers—New Creative Voices of 'The Twilight Saga' where five panelists will look for five female directors to direct the short films."

According to The NY Times, the five female panelists include Kristen Stewart, Julia Bowen, Octavia Spencer, Kate Winslet, and author Stephanie Meyer. Other panelists will also include "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke, "Frozen" co-director Jennifer Lee, and Cathy Schulman.

People may be wondering why it has to be a group of female panelists and why female directors are needed. The reason is because this project is backed by Women in Film, according to Entertainment Weekly. Women in Film "aims to encourage female directors" and actors who are underrepresented in Hollywood.

While this is certainly good news to all "Twilight" fans, there's one kicker though. The short films, to be released on the social network, will not feature any of the original cast from the movies.

Lions Gate Vice Chairman Michael Burns also hinted to The NY Times that this whole thing isn't just about keeping the "Twilight" Saga alive. More than that, it's the relationship between Lions Gate and Facebook.

"This is just the beginning—a template, if you will. You can probably guess what might be coming next," Burns said.

What could he be talking about exactly? Perhaps, a full feature-length movie coming out in Facebook in the future? Anything's possible.
