Frankie Edgar has been impatiently waiting for a chance to fight Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight champion Conor McGregor, and he may need to wait a bit longer for that opportunity.

The only thing going for Edgar is that he is the recognized number one contender to McGregor's title. Other than that, it is all about time.

Edgar is set to sit down with UFC Chairman Lorenzo Fertita and President Dana White in Las Vegas, a move to probably figure out just exactly what is in store for him as reported through the LA Times.

McGregor seems to be all set for his first lightweight match against current champion Rafael dos Anjos this coming March at UFC 197, meaning that Edgar will likely have to wait a bit unless he is given a match soon.

Apparently, Edgar wants to keep himself active and such will most likely be among the things that he and the two top UFC officials will be discussing.

Then again, would it be wise to face someone else for now and flirt with a possible loss that could knock him out as the top contender?

Apparently, those are some things going on in Edgar's mind right now and most likely, these concerns will be brought up as well. Putting everything in place, whatever next move that Edgar makes could make (or break) his future — including a title shot if he is not careful.

Looking at it from afar, it seems that Edgar does find himself in a bind. But he has to stay active and the difference could ultimately fall on who the UFC pits against him. But bear in mind that Edgar is practically trying to preserve himself for that coveted title shot.

He may call it unfair but knows that McGregor has things going his way because of his popularity and stature. From that alone, it is pretty clear that Edgar has to simply adjust.
