Game developer Naughty Dog has reached a new milestone for their company. The "Uncharted" series — Naughty Dog's best-selling series — has sold over 40 million units worldwide.

The announcement was made by Naughty Dog during their "Uncharted's 10th Anniversary" panel at the Sony PlayStation Experience (PSX) that took place on Dec. 8–10. According to PushSquare, the overall lifetime sales figure of "The Nathan Drake Collection" now stands at 41.7 million units.

During the company's May 216, the "Uncharted" series sold a total of 28 million units. This means that successful promotions of the series raked in 14 million units more in just 18 months – an amazing feat for Naughty Dog.

The figure may also include the sales figure of "Uncharted" copies sold in PlayStation bundles over the past three years, as well as the PS4 re-master of "The Nathan Drake Collection." This is one of the reasons why Naughty Dog's sales of the franchise rose to such figures.

This is Sony's chance to grab the opportunity to make another "Uncharted" series, even though Nathan Drake's (the franchise's main protagonist) story line has ended during the franchise's fourth installment "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End."

For now, "Uncharted: Lost Legacy" will be Naughty Dog's final addition for the "Uncharted" series. Nathan Drake may appear on a new series, but Naughty Dog will not be the one creating it.

In other related news, the "Uncharted" series will have a movie. According to Deadline, Sony Pictures will be making the movie as a prequel to the storyline of the "Uncharted" game series.

There is no word yet on who will write the story for the "Uncharted" prequel movie but the film itself will draw inspiration from "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception" when young Nathan Drake meets his lifetime buddy, Victor Sullivan, for the first time

With this, Sony has cast "Spider-Man: Homecoming" actor Tom Holland as the young Nathan Drake. Sony has also got "Real Steel" and "Night at the Museum" director Shawn Levy to direct the said "Uncharted" movie.
