'Under the Dome' season 3 spoilers: Show features new menace in episode 4

A new menace threatens the people of Chester's Mill on the upcoming episode of "Under the Dome."CBS

Season 3 Episode 4 of CBS' new science-fiction drama "Under the Dome" will witness a new threat that will spread fear within the Dome and those trapped inside it.

In "The Kinship," Julia Shumway (Rachelle Lefevre) and Big Jim Rennie (Dean Norris) will make the shocking discovery. Fashion & Style believes that this new menace is none other than the new therapist, Christine Price (Marg Helgenberger). Under the guise of helping Chester's Mill rebuild, she will encourage the citizens towards specific individuals and projects to stir up their memories of what happened in the tunnels beneath Chester's Mill.

In the last episode, entitled "Redux," the townspeople found themselves back under the Dome and tried to forget their mysterious experience. Some were confused, as the events in the alternate reality they had just come from felt totally believable. Christine and Eva Sinclair (Kylie Bunbury) were now also trapped. Viewers discovered that she and Melanie Cross (Grace Victoria Cox) previously worked together. Melanie was jealous of Christine's position, being the "queen" cocoon, even though she also touched the egg 25 years ago. When Melanie attacked Julia, the therapist saw her chance and killed her.

Meanwhile, Big Jim found a video footage in Eva's room and saw Christine digging up the egg. He suspected that the new residents in town were concealing secrets about the Dome. Barbie (Mike Vogel) and Julia were reunited, but since he had moved on and was already with Eva, they were no longer a couple. Joe McAlister (Colin Ford) and Norrie Calvert-Hill (Mackenzie Lintz) also appeared to be moving further apart while she became closer to Hunter May (Max Ehrich).

Cartermatt reports that "The Kinship" will be a "search for answers" and will "somewhat be emotional." It will also hopefully provide a better glimpse of the mysterious character of Christine.

Executive Producer Neal Baer discussed Helgenberger's character in the show and the integral part she would play in the town of Chester's Mill, as reported by The Straits Times.

"We have taken the viewers through all kinds of calamities. We had butterflies and caterpillars eating crops and acid rain and all kinds of things dealing with a parable of climate change. But now, it's really character-oriented and about how they're going to get out of this place with new calamities brought on by Marg's character," Baer said.

Episode 4 is airs at 9 p.m. Thursday on CBS.
