'Under the Dome' season 4 renewed or cancelled? CBS renewal not confirmed

Fans will have to wait for more updates regarding the show's fate.CBS

While the current season of science fiction drama series "Under the Dome" is winding to an end, CBS Television Network has been unexpectedly quiet regarding its renewal for the fourth installment.

During the recently concluded Television Critics Association (TCA) summer meeting in Beverly Hills, fans finally got some answers about what is in store for the show. Nina Tassler, chairman of CBS Entertainment, told the press that at the moment, they have not made a decision yet about its renewal.

She said, however, that the season finale will open up "a host of other storytelling opportunities," especially as "The Dome" will literally come crashing down at the end. Unreality TV reports that even though the structure will be taken down entirely, it does not mean that the series will be saying goodbye as well.

Previous reports theorized that the CBS series would not get a season 4 due to its poor ratings. "Under the Dome's" performance has certainly been far from being stellar in the past months. According to Zap2it, the series suffered a very low rating middle of July, barely reaching the 0.9 mark. The fact that the network had been very quiet on a possible renewal of the sci-fi is allegedly a dead giveaway.

Tassler, however, made it clear that she was happy with the overall performance of the CBS Television Network's summer programs, including "The Dome." The chairman said the series ranked second in their roster of scripted show and that it streamed well on Amazon.

Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly reports that the creative team of the sci-fi series has been setting up the finale of the ongoing season as the ultimate ending. As early as the San Diego Comic-Con, executive producer Tim Schlattmann has been hinting that season 3 would be the show's last.

At the moment, fans could only wait for further updates regarding renewal or even cancellation of their favorite show.
