Choice-heavy, fantasy game "Underworld Ascendant" released some footage of their upcoming game. The video was uploaded on Jan, 22 to Fanbolt's YouTube channel.

A spiritual successor to "Ultima Underworld," the upcoming game "Underworld Ascendant" will give fans of the 1992 roleplaying game a chance to return to the Stygian Abyss. While "Underworld Ascendant" has no specific release date as of yet, it is currently slated for a 2018 release.

In "Ultima Underworld" players entered the Stygian Abyss in search of a Codex of Ultimate Wisdom. The abyss was once a utopia created by a man named Cabirus, but the colony collapsed, and all the remained were the artifacts from long ago.

In "Underworld Ascendant" players will be returning with a different goal in mind. The exact objective remains unclear, however, magic and choices away all who enter the abyss. The video posted on YouTube, focused on giving curious players a glimpse of the game's stealth and magic mechanics, mostly showcasing how the player could engage with enemies in the abyss. It showcased different magic spells, some level and enemy design, alongside the game's sneaking mechanics.

The video received mixed reviews, with some of the viewers comparing it to a "low-budget" version of Skyrim. Some of the viewers criticized the game for its graphics and design.

"Underworld Ascendant" is still in development, but a Steam page is already available for RPG fans who wish to learn a little bit more about the upcoming fantasy game. According to the summary: "From the creative minds behind the acclaimed Ultima Underworld series. Return to The Stygian Abyss in Underworld Ascendant, the action RPG designed to maximize player choice in a breath-taking fantasy realm, rife with danger and full of intrigue."

The game will also feature a dynamic narrative that changes according to the players' choices, a hero with a fluid play style that depends on player preferences, and a huge fantasy world to explore.

The game is being developed by OtherSide Entertainment and will be published by 505 Games.
