Season 1 of Lifetime's "UnREAL" ended with a very ambiguous conversation between Rachel Goldberg (Shiri Appleby) and Quinn King (Constance Zimmer), leaving viewers intrigued about the real meaning of their exchange of "I love you." According to Appleby, that is exactly what the dark comedy-drama series is hoping to achieve before the series begins its second season. 

In an exclusive interview with TVLine, the lead actresses of "UnREAL" explained what their characters meant when they expressed their love for one another.

Appleby said: "I felt like she was saying, 'I love you, but you're killing me on the inside,' 'I love you and I'm going to get back at you,' and 'I love you, you're the only person I really have in this world.'" 

Zimmer also acknowledged that the last scene in the first season finale left an unnatural feeling for the audience. She believes that her character knows that the love between her and her subordinate Rachel is unhealthy, and she could eventually find a way to use it against Rachel or to protect herself in the next season. 

"Ultimately, the people were really into the relationship of Quinn and Rachel. That was the best way to end it — to show that you can be 100 percent in love with someone, but know that they could possibly be pretty bad for you. We just have to figure out what that is for both of us," Zimmer shared. 

In "UnREAL" season 1, Rachel realized that she can do whatever it takes to make sure that the dating reality show "Everlasting" does well in the ratings game, even if it can be quite unethical. This makes her no different from her manipulative executive producer Quinn. 

Appleby revealed that production for "UnREAL" season 2 will start in March next year and the writers will begin their work in November.
