Serena Williams, the women's number 1 seed, will be taking on Voskoboeva, and they will be second on the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Of course, Serena's sister, Venus Williams was knocked out on Wednesday losing in the second round for the third consecutive year – this time falling to China's Zheng Jie.

The two-time champion lost 6-3 2-6 7-6 (7-5) in a marathon three hours and two minutes, which makes the match the joint fifth-longest women's match in the event's history.

In other matches, third seed Agnieszka Radwanska and fifth seed Li Na advanced before rain hit on Wednesday.

In addition, sixth seed in the men's singles tournament, Juan Martin del Potro also went through.

China's Li also won through and will play Britain's bright young player, Laura Robson, who beat Caroline Garcia of France 6-4 7-6 (7-5) in the second round.

Li Na (Chn), who is the 5th seed, beat Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden 6-2 6-2. She needed just 64 minutes to wrap up victory, and said afterwards: "I was so lucky before the rain came that I finished the match so I don't have to wait and warm up and come to the court again."

Other matches on Thursday will see Roger Federer, seeded 7th in this year's tournament following a drop in form over recent years, play Berlocq from Argentina. Last on the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Thursday will be men's second seed, Rafael Nadal, who will play Dutra Da Silva from Brazil.
