Actress Nina Dobrev announced several months ago that she would be leaving "The Vampire Diaries," but that did not stop her from receving the Choice TV Actress: Sci-Fi/ Fantasy Award during this year's Teen Choice Awards. While accepting her award the actress took the time to bid farewell to all of her fans.

Upon getting up on stage she popped in fake vampire fangs only to take them out and tell the crowd, "That's right, I don't need these anymore."

It was a quick light-hearted moment but she immediately followed this up with a heartfelt farewell speech to all her fans who have watched her for six seasons on the show.

"So, change. It's a scary word, or I used to think that, because it meant new beginnings. New beginnings with a future that was unknown," she told the crowd. "We've grown up, and over the last six years, we've become women. These were six incredible years that I've had the pleasure of sharing with all of you guys. We wouldn't be here without you, I wouldn't be here without you... change is coming, so hold on and enjoy the ride."

Her departure was due to her interest in pursuing other projects. Her character, Elena Gilbert, was not killed off, however, and instead was put to sleep, allowing her to return she ever desires.

Dobrev is not the only character to be leaving the show. Steven R. McQueen's character was also written off as the actor also wants to pursue other film and TV openings. According to a report from Cinema Blend, other cast members of "The Vampire Diaries" have left the show to take part in another The CW series, "The Originals."

"The Vampire Diaries" will still continue on with season 7 although the focus will now center on Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley). Season 7 premieres on Oct. 8.
