'Vampire Diaries' season 6 spoilers: Lily comes in to salvage Stefan's humanity in episode 18

Damon and Elena in Vampire Diaries season 6 episode 18CW

Episode 17 of "The Vampire Diaries" revealed some juicy details regarding Lily, the mother of Damon and Stefan Salvatore. In episode 18 titled "I Could Never Love Like That," it looks like she'll be playing a bigger role after leaving her 1903 prison world.

The promo trailer for the episode shows two couples plotting two different events. First, there's Damon and Elena sharing some intimate moments — both of them wrapped in towels, leaving little to the imagination — and there's Stefan pairing with Caroline.

Caroline and Stefan plan on painting the town red, literally, and the first item on their list is to kill their friends. The promo trailer reveals that their first targets are Tyler and Matt.

"Heads, I kill Tyler. Tails, I kill Matt," Caroline says in the teaser.

Fans of the show know that this is no prank. In episode 17, the duo almost killed Enzo and Alaric. Luckily, Lily is coming back, and Damon plans on using his mother to salvage Stefan's humanity.

"She is a tool to get Stefan's humanity back," Damon tells Elena.

Throughout the trailer, Damon is seen talking to Lily, preparing her to deal with her son. Caroline and Stefan then meet Lily for the first time.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Annie Wersching, who plays Lily in the series, explains, "She has a lot of torment inside of her. And then adding this guilt that she feels for what the boys think of her and think that she did to them, it really messes with her."

Saving Stefan isn't the only issue that episode 18 will deal with. While Elena and Jo take charge of the hospital to deal with the victims that Stefan and Caroline leave in their wake as blood-thirsty monsters, Elena discovers that Jo is pregnant and this leaves her to ponder about her own future and humanity.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 6 episode 18 "I Could Never Love Like That" is scheduled to air on April 16.
