'Vampire Diaries' season 7 spoilers, plot news: Bonnie's new love interest, some 'nasty girls,' and Elena's return?

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will bring back dark "sexy, volatile, dangerous" Damon and say goodbye to Elena, apparently for good. During the San Diego Comic-Con, a lot was revealed about the Mystic Falls' condition as its dwellers move on.

Those who have been hoping for a romance between Damon and Bonnie will be disappointed. In a quick stop at the TV Line Comic-Con booth, executive producer Caroline Dries revealed that the witch is "going to have her own love interest this year — and it's not going to be Damon."

Kat Graham, who plays Bonnie, said that her character might even be paired up with another female witch, as part of "having some discoveries, sexually, about herself." This doesn't mean Damon is completely out of options, though.

In the cast's sojourn in MTV during the convention, actress Candice Accola aka Caroline revealed that Elena is not totally out of the picture and this unpredictability, she said, is "what's fun about this series."

"You never know when characters are going to leave, you never know when they're going to come back. That's been a constant for six seasons, now," the actress explained. "So the fact that, for such a big departure, that it is left open-ended, is really true to the show."

Season 7 will also delve into the Steroline status. Executive producer Julie Plec said at the Comic-Con panel, as picked up by Entertainment Weekly, that "they're just getting really cemented in their romantic status. She's [Caroline] trying really hard not to be ready."

Meanwhile, Lily and the Heretics were revealed to be the antagonists this season. Plec added that there will also be "nasty, nasty, nasty girls" named Valerie, Nora and Mary-Louise, the latter two in a relationship, to cause more trouble.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will premiere on Oct. 8.
