"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will be problematic for the Salvatore brothers, who are set to face another threat in Mystic Falls as they adjust to where their respective love lives have taken them. In an interview with Melty, actor Paul Wesley hinted at what his character Stefan and Stefan's brother could be up against.

"Someone is after Damon and Stefan," the actor revealed. "There is an imminent danger and threat. They're running from this thing, but we don't know what it is."

There is no word on who or what that could be but in the subject of danger, their mother Lily has something to do with it. It was already revealed that the Salvatore matriarch is going to be the newest adversary in season 7, along with a group of vampires called Heretics. These antagonists have special witch powers and they aren't afraid at all to use them.

Apart from the bodily danger Lily and her new posse can bring, her return also has an emotional weight on Damon and Stefan. This is what executive producer Julie Plec elaborated during an interview Buddy TV

"Damon and Stefan are dealing with the fact that their mother, who essentially abandoned them, has shown up in their hometown with a group of people that she calls her new family and that she calls her new children," the EP revealed. "It's emotionally incredibly frustrating."

The premiere episode of season 7 is titled "22,190 Days," which reports say refers to Damon's promise to Elena that he will wait for her to rise from her magic-induced coma. With his girl gone, Damon will go back to his impulsive ways.

As for Alaric who lost his pregnant wife and is never coming back, Plec said via Zap2it, "He's going to explore his grief in some unconventional ways involving a lot of booze and some secret desires that involve psychics and witches to try to contact the dead and God knows what else."
