Christmas may not be merry at all for the residents of Mystic Falls because one of the beloved characters of "The Vampire Diaries" will die. Paul Wesley, the actor who plays the role of the younger Salvatore brother Stefan, recently sat for an interview with E! News and teased about the event that will happen in the upcoming midseason finale. 

He said, "Dude, there's always deaths, there is a big one coming up, I will say that, there is a big one that's really going to break the people's hearts." 

Although the actor and The CW did not provide any information about who among the characters will meet their end, a lot of speculations are pointing to Sheriff Liz Forbes, played by Marguerite MacIntyre. The rumors about the sheriff's death stemmed from the episode's official synopsis, which reads: 

With the holidays approaching, Bonnie attempts to replicate her favorite traditions, while reminiscing about happier times with her friends. Not able to return home to Mystic Falls for her favorite time of the year, Caroline is surprised when Sheriff Forbes brings the holidays to her at Whitmore College. Meanwhile, after discovering that Jo has gone missing, Alaric turns to Damon and Elena for help, while Liv and Luke find themselves at odds when Tyler approaches them with a risky plan. Elsewhere, Jeremy helps Matt carry out a plan to take down Enzo but grows concerned when Matt takes things too far. Lastly, Stefan is forced to break some devastating news to Caroline. 

Could this mean that this will be the last Christmas for Caroline (Candice Accola) and her mom? And since it is Stefan who will break the news to Caroline, the relationship between the two could somehow change after this episode. 

Also, things are looking bad for Jo, portrayed by Jodi Lyn O'Keefe. Alaric (Matt Davis) will find out that she's missing, and he would have to go to Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) for help. Is the Gemini Coven involved in Jo's sudden disappearance?
