When it comes to TV series, seeing a main character exit is never good. And with the shocking announcement of Nina Dobrev's exit, things are not shaping up well for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7.

Dobrev, one of the main characters, announced that she will be leaving after season 6. Such was of course something that left many in disbelief with Dobrev explaining that she had originally pictured her character to be around only for six seasons.

Despite her exit, Dobrev did leave on a bright note, teasing that despite her departure, there would be something to look forward to as far as the remainder of the season is concerned.

But even more shocking could be this confirmation made by creator Julie Plec. In a report from Hollywood life, Plec confirmed that another character is also leaving "The Vampire Diaries" – Michael Trevino who plays Tyler Lockwood.

With the exit of these two faces, "The Vampire Diaries" will now have to make do with the remaining cast members: Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Kat Graham and Candice Accola. But while confirming that, Plec likewise stressed that they should start treating each season as if it was the last.

Plec cited that such is the case for any TV series. Apparently she was referring to a show's original cast, which when pieced out, would be hard to hold together. And such has indeed been the case for most popular TV series such as "90210" or "Cheers."

Fan base and of course on-screen chemistry are just some of the possible reasons as viewers tend to reminisce and recall cast members who unfortunately have to move on as they outgrow their on-screen character.

Devastating as the news may be, such is a reality in TV series. And with the main cast members like Dobrev and Trevion out, the task of continuing a show while maintaining its following and popularity could be done but with no promise of longevity.
