Vanessa Hudgens knows what it takes to be a good friend, and if that means helping someone deal with the possibility of running into an ex, then she's on board for that by all means.

On Thursday's episode of "Watch What Happens Live," the "Gimme Shelter" actress gamely answered questions that were called in by her fans. One of them asked her if it was true that she had helped Selena Gomez avoid Justin Bieber at the Met Gala.

"Getting spicy now aren't we?" said the 26-year old. "Um… I mean not really."

"She's one of my best friends and you just want to have your girlfriends' backs," Hudgens said of Gomez. "So that's what I did. We didn't really try to avoid him or anything. I mean, no one really wants to see your ex-boyfriend."

Hudgens can certainly relate to the "I Want You to Know" singer's dilemma because she knows a thing or two about running into an ex, especially if that ex also happens to be famous. The Broadway star used to date her "High School Musical" co-star Zac Efron for four years before calling it quits in December 2010. Meanwhile, Gomez had an on-off relationship with Bieber before breaking up with him in December 2014.

The two ladies have been friends since they were teen stars at Disney. Hudgens shot to fame after playing Gabriella Montez on the "High School Musical" series. Gomez was one of the stars of the Disney TV show "Witches of Waverly Place." The two often spent time together at Disney events. After their stint on the family-friendly network, Hudgens and Gomez co-starred in the edgy 2013 film "Spring Breakers."

As previously reported by Us Weekly, Hudgens, Gomez, Bieber, and other celebrities attended Rihanna's Met Gala after-party. A source told the magazine that Bieber tried "very hard" to speak to Gomez, but their conversation was very brief.
