Handset owners of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from Verizon are yet to receive the OTA Android 4.4.2 Kitkat OS update but impatient users can now download the "unofficial" OS upgrade.

The complete installation detailed instructions are posted on the XDA-Developers forum. Based on the comments, it seemed that the unofficial update was working fine.

Although, XDA Developers has provided a quick solution for Verizon Galaxy Note 3 users in getting the latest Android 4.4.2 Kitkat update, users are advised to proceed with caution. First of all, rooting your phone may void the warranty with your carrier.

According to GottaBeMobile, it is still unclear whether this is the same to the software update that the carrier will roll out soon. There is also a possibility that users may encounter problems, especially those who are not adept at installing leaked software.

The forum post encouraged users who want to install the update to pass on the OTA update that Verizon will eventually provide to their phablets but users are advised to do some research before installing the software.

The Android 4.4.2 Kitkat update for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 started rolling out in January. The next month, Sprint and U.S. Cellular started pushing their own updates to their handsets. AT&T and T-Mobile and several other carriers in Canada updated their devices these past weeks. While, some carriers have confirmed that the much-awaited OS update will roll out in May or June they have not announced specific release dates.

Unfortunately, Verizon is tight lipped about the roll out of its on firmware upgrade. Verizon's Android 4.4.2 Kitkat OS update is expected to bring the same improvements seen on its Galaxy S4 handsets such as enhancements on the keyboard and camera as bug fixes.
