The trailer for "Vikings" season 4 was shown during the series' panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. There, fans were promised bigger warfare, vengeance and more drama. The lead stars along with the show creator Michael Hirst were all there to grace the event and to answer some questions.

While Hirst wasn't very generous with the specifics, he did say that the show will make a time jump but he wasn't sure how big. He also revealed that the new season will also put the spotlight on Ragnar's sons, not just the self-proclaimed descendant of Odin.

"Vikings" season 4 will also see a new "god" although Hirst didn't reveal who or what. In addition, he also said that Ragnar will find a new love interest in the upcoming season, someone who will take fans of the series aback. The creator didn't get into full detail about this, although he did hint that a "very talented actress" will play the role and that this character will develop a "unique relationship" with Ragnar.

"It's very unexpected. When I first thought of it, I did check with a historical expert that this was a possible connection," Hirst said.

Actor Travis Fimmel said during the convention that his character Ragnar, who "got very close to death" last season, will develop a "fascination with death" as the season progresses.

"Like Odin, who hung himself to feel how it felt to be dead," the actor compared.

Meanwhile, "Vikings" season 4 will also show Bjorn struggling with losing Thorunn and will try to move on and "figure out his life" by "[going] out to the woods." Alexander Ludwig, who plays the character, said that a "bear starts stalking him" while at it, and he will engage in a duel with the animal.

"Ironically, the bear had a bigger resume than anyone else on the set," the actor revealed. "It was the Anchorman bear. I was starstruck."

"Vikings" season 4 will begin early next year.
