Will Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen) rise up to become the new king of Kattegat?

According to a report by University Herald, this could be a possibility as Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) will need to groom his son to take his place after he lost the respect of Vikings when he returned to his homeland defeated.

Ragnar's relationship with his eldest son Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) also keeps the Viking from convincing his son to take on his crusade. 

In an interview, Anderson admitted that this season will see his character undergo many challenges including pain and self-hate due to his loneliness and physical disability. His biggest hurdle, however, will be earning the respect of his tribesmen in order to realize his destiny and become a formidable leader like his father.

In a promo for the second half of season 4, Ragnar could be seen rallying his son to take up his mission and rise to greatness.

Meanwhile, before Ivar gets to take the throne, it has been reported that Queen Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) will have to defend her claim against Ragnar's first wife, Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) who has come to reclaim her home. With an army in tow, it is expected that a major showdown will happen between the two women.

In other news, there are rumors that Lagertha might die from a wound to the chest in season 4. However, show creator Michael Hirst has dismissed the rumors and assured that Lagetha's fate is pretty much sealed for season 5.

"There's a feminist collective in New York who wrote to me a couple years ago and they said, 'We don't' care how many of the male characters you kill off, but if you do anything to Lagertha, you're in trouble.' So I'm very careful about that warning," he said.

"She's also gone on this amazing female journey in which she's gone from farmer's wife [who's] happily married with kids, to being betrayed, to being in an abusive relationship, to having power, to having power taken away from her by men, to having to fight her way back, to having to lose her baby again. She is the soul of the show and I need her," he continued.

Even as the show prepares to air the second half of its fourth season on Nov. 30, it has been reported that season 5 has been greenlighted by History Channel.
