In the next episode of "Vikings," Bishop Heahmund (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) goes head-to-head with the Viking leader Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen).

The trailer for the upcoming installment, titled "The Prisoner," was just released recently and showed the Saxons fighting with the Vikings in the town of York. There is chaos everywhere as both sides try to cut each other down with knives and swords. Ivar throws an axe directly at a British soldier who is hit right in the chest. The ruthless leader just laughs at the people that he kills.

Meanwhile, Heahmund rallies his fellow soldiers to fight against the formidable Vikings. "Bare not your sword in vain!" he shouts at the Saxons. However, it remains to be seen whether Ivar or Heahmund will win the gruesome battle in York.

Elsewhere, Bjorn Lothbrok (Alexander Ludwig) and Halfdan (Jasper Paakkonen) travel to North Africa to meet a formidable leader of the Mediterranean named Ziyadat Allah. They travel through the desert by camel along with their fellow Vikings. They are also joined by Euphemius (Albano Jeronimo) and his entourage to guide them along the journey.

Apparently, Lothbrok becomes intimate with a woman belonging to Euphemius's group. The next day, the Viking is confronted by the Southern leader, but things don't get settled smoothly. Lothbrok and Haldan are then sentenced to die by the sword. It remains to be seen if they will survive.

In the last episode, Heahmund devised a plan to infiltrate York, but the soldiers found themselves in a deserted town. They approached the center where the church was and discovered rats there. The bishop wondered why the rodents were above ground and sensed that something was amiss.

"Vikings" season 5 episode 5 will hit the airwaves on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 9 p.m. EST on the History channel.
