Volvo has scored high in Euro New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) safety tests for its new Volvo XC90. Now, Volvo's new vehicle is one of the latest car models that garnered a five-star rating when it comes to safety.

Becoming available in United Kingdom only this year, XC90 was praised for exemplary safety in adult occupancy, thanks to its standard feature — the autonomous emergency braking.

"This is further proof that with Volvo XC90 we have developed one of the safest cars in the world. In fact we scored one hundred per cent in the Safety Assist category," said senior vice president of Volvo Car Group's research and development, Dr. Peter Mertens, in Volvo's news release.

The NCAP safety tests encompass adult and child protection, safety assistance systems, and safety for pedestrian, all of which XC90 aced, apart from the 100% rating it received for the car's safety features.

Volvo is sticking to its 2020 vision, in which it foresees no deaths or serious injuries involving its vehicles by year 2020.

The five-star rating XC90 got from the safety tests is a clear indication that the company is committed to bringing cars with excellent safety features and zero crashes as its ultimate goals.

The new XC90 is an updated vehicle but it is considered an entirely new model, as written in alphr.com.

The XC90 comes with fresh features such as crash prevention, auto parking, and a display that shows front and rear surroundings. It also has proximity sensors that alert the driver if the car comes very close to another object or car.

Meanwhile, other cars that received five-star ratings during NCAP's tests include Volkswagen Touran, Renault Kadjar, Ford Galaxy, Toyota Avensis and Audi A7.

As for Mitsubishi L200 and Mazda CX-5, they got four-star ratings; both vehicles are still considered safe but the safety features come as an option rather than a standard feature of the car, hence the rating.
