"Warcraft 3" is commonly known to being the home of the first popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game, "DotA." Of course, "Warcraft 3" is popular in its own right with a lot of pros still playing the game. In fact, the Public Test Realm (PTR) has just gotten another major update keeping the game alive.

It is a big surprise for many gamers that a 16-year old game could get a huge update. It adds a lot of balance changes and adjustments. The player count has also been doubled from 12 to 24. That said, it makes sense for the developers to make map pool changes given the bigger number of players in a single map.

It then also makes sense for them to even add a widescreen support for the game. The in-game editor in which players also get to make their own custom maps — and in which "DotA" was created — has also been updated. In fact, a lot of changes have been made and it may take a while to discuss all of them in detail.

The huge update sparked rumors of a possible remaster for the game. While it definitely seems convincing for them to do so especially with the game's still huge player base, Blizzard has not announced anything yet. They did it for "StarCraft" so players will inevitably expect the same treatment to "Warcraft 3."

This news of a PTR update was also followed by the announcement of Blizzard putting up a "Warcraft 3" Invitational. A lot of pros have been invited and are definitely coming to the event. Fans even noticed these pros getting their passports and visas even before the announcement was revealed. Now they know what those were for.

"Warcraft 3" was first released back in 2002. Popular MOBA "DotA" was actually a custom map made for the expansion called "Frozen Throne" for the original game called "Reign of Chaos."
