Washington Wizards NBA Free Agency News 2015: David West out to join an NBA title contender

The Washington Wizards are trying to beef up their lineup, and one department they are seriously trying to hone is their frontcourt muscle.

Word has it that the team is planning to make a big push for David West, formerly of the Indiana Pacers. West is currently a free agent after opting out of his $12.2-million contract with Indiana.

There is no word on which team West will end up playing with next, though he did express interest in joining the San Antonio Spurs or newly-crowned NBA champion Golden State Warriors. From the looks of it, West has one thing in mind – an NBA title opportunity.

Word has it that West could probably end up with either the Spurs or the Wizards, though the Cleveland Cavaliers have just recently entered the picture.

If West is indeed looking to join a championship-caliber team, his best chances are the Spurs or the Cavs. That choice seems to have been whittled down to the Cavs after the Spurs recently recruited LaMarcus Aldridge for a five-year deal worth $80 million.

"At this point in my career, it's all about winning," West said during an interview via ESPN. "And again, I don't want to be in a position where we're just fighting to make the playoffs. I want to be in a spot where we can legitimately taste the Finals."

With the Warriors and the Spurs seemingly filled up, West's wish to join a contender is now down to Cleveland. But if that also doesn't materialize, will West settle for a rising Wizards team? The Wizards do have two talented guards in their lineup in John Wall and Bradley Beal, both of whom made a good account of themselves in the recently concluded NBA playoffs.

Though the Wizards seem to come close to being a contender, West will have to work for it and be among the leaders to make that happen.

Though that seems to be a tall order, West is being wooed by the Wizards to somehow make up for the loss of Paul Pierce, who left to join the Los Angeles Clippers. Will West bite the bait and move to Washington?
