Watch Dogs release date coming for Wii U; PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions to hit shelves in May

Watch Dogs is set to release for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on May 27, 2014.

The highly anticipated Watch Dogs will be hitting shelves nationwide on May 27, 2014.

The Watch Dog's multiplayer mode will allow up to eight people at a time. It will also allow the players to hack, race and compete together.

Gameplay designer Danny Belanger told Polygon: "It's your fame. It's your rank as a hacker. If you are hacked you'll lose a bit of notoriety ... We didn't want it to be frustrating or a punishment. The goal was just to create a cool dynamic with something at risk, but not something that will make you upset and angry."

Another addition to the game will be a free mobile companion app that acts as a second screen, allowing players to act like an agent.

A special Limited Edition Watch Dogs game will retail for a whopping $129.99, which comes with impressive packaging, the Art of Watch Dogs book which features models and concept art from the development of the game, and a 9-inch statue of Aiden holding his smartphone. It also comes with a replica of the mask Aiden wears and Steel Book game case in which a copy of the game and soundtrack is enclosed.

Pre-order options for Ubisoft's latest game for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One are currently available across retailers for $59.99.

Although Watch Dogs will release for all most platforms next month, a release date for the Wii U has not been announced as of yet. The Wii U version is currently in development, with the game producer Dominic Guay confirming to Polygon: "Yeah it's still alive. We still haven't defined a ship date for it, though. So it's on hold, to a certain extent for shipping."

He continued, "We don't have a specific ship date for it yet so it's considered within the year. So we're going to look at that and we're going to let people know as soon as we figure out an exact date for it."
