Fans of "Wayward Pines" have been waiting for any news about a second season since the series wrapped its freshman season last July. The show, which was directed by M. Night Shyamalan, was well-received by critics, but Fox has yet to announce if the series will be renewed.

After the show aired its season finale, Shyamalan went back to filming movies and last September, the director celebrated the premiere of his new movie "The Visit." The film is about a single mother who finds that things in her family's life have gone wrong after her children's visit to their grandparents. The film marks Shyamalan's return to making movies after 2013's "After Earth."

This month, Shyamalan is filming a new thriller titled "Split." For now, the plot is kept under wraps, but in a Twitter post last month, the director revealed that James McAvoy is playing the lead in his new movie. On Nov. 10, Shyamalan gave a filming update on the micro blogging site, which describes a scene in the upcoming film.

"8 days of shooting #Split complete. Spent the day running through tunnels under an old asylum. Felt glad to come to the surface!" Shyamalan tweeted.

With the success of his initial foray into television, Shyamalan also took on a new challenge last month as he directed his first ever music video for singer Andra Day. Shyamalan directed the singer's video for her song, "Rise Up," and he revealed that the singer got in touch with him after he tweeted how much he loved her music.

After production on "Split" wraps up, Shyamalan is expected to start filming his new movie titled "Labor of Love." The movie, which is about a widower who embarks on a cross-country trip on foot to prove his love for his late wife, will reunite the director with "The Sixth Sense" star Bruce Willis.

For now, it is unclear whether the director is planning new episodes for the Fox series as Shyamalan has stayed silent about the future of "Wayward Pines" on social media. His last tweet about the series was on July 25, two days after the season finale.

"Rode my fat-bike this morning. Reflecting on #Wayward Pines. Listening to Nirvana. Looking forward to #TheVisitMovie. Feeling super lucky," he wrote.

Though Shyamalan is certainly on a roll with his upcoming films, the director said that he wouldn't say no to directing a second season for "Wayward Pines."

Speaking to Deadline last July, he said, "If I believe in the story, then we should say yes to doing more. Then hopefully we can maybe do another show that people like, as well. So yeah, I'm open to it, for sure."
