'Wayward Pines' season 2 spoilers: Story to be more suspenseful than in season 1

Very little information regarding "Wayward Pines" season 2 has been released since Fox officially renewed the show but back in December Fox Broadcasting Company President David Madden did make it clear that season 2 will be even better than the first.

"'Wayward Pines' was a huge hit for us this past summer," Madden explained to Variety back in December. "Season Two is going to take the suspense, the vision of the future and the haunting character drama to whole new levels, and we can't wait for our fans to continue that ride next year."

This may indicate that the second season will involve even more mysteries than the first and may involve the "abbies" more often, given than they are the mutated creatures that forced the creation of the town in the first place. Many fans speculate that the "abbies" invading the town again or a group venturing out may come into play in season 2.

At the same time, the report states that while no casting news has been confirmed, the second season will focus on an entirely new character who just arrives at Wayward Pines right as the town is in the middle of the rebellion. Fans believe that this rebellion is being led by Ben Burke (Charlie Tahan), the survivor of the first season.

It is unknown if this new arrival comes from the cryo-pods kept underneath Wayward Pines or if it is a person coming from outside the walls, likely a survivor from the group formerly led by Adam Hassler (Tim Griffin). If it is the latter then he or she may shed more light on what has become of the world outside of Wayward Pines.

Series creator and showrunner Chad Hodge will not be returning for season 2 but M. Night Shyamalan and author Blake Crouch are still on board as executive producers, along with Donald De Line, Ashwin Rajan and Mark Friedman.
