'Wayward Pines' season 2 spoilers: show to focus on a newly introduced character

One of the biggest surprises of 2015 was "Wayward Pines," a one-time television series handled by M. Night Shyamalan that proved to be a big success. As reported by Variety, the series was renewed for a second season and will now focus on a new character who has just arrived in the titular town.

Season 1 covered the whole story of Blake Crouch's novels but notably altered the ending just in case a second season would indeed be granted. Despite this alteration, main character Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) was killed off and now the studios have addressed how season 2 will come off the events from season 1.

At the very end of season 1, Ethan's son awakes and discovers that the First Generation children have taken over and now the adults are kept in their cryo-stasis chambers. According to the report, the new character will be arriving in Wayward Pines right as Ethan's son launches his rebellion to take over the town from the First Generation.

Unfortunately, this may not entirely mean that the same cast from the first film will return. It is possible that this rebellion has taken years to fully develop and now the character of Ben Burke (Charlie Tahan) might be recast to an older actor. The adults kept in cryo-stasis, however, such as Theresa Burke (Shannyn Sossamon) might return.

The origins of this new character have not yet been revealed. Fans continue to speculate if this character is Adam Hassler (Tim Griffin), who spent most of his time with a special team outside the walls of Wayward Pines, or at least someone from his crew who now arrives at the town, or if it is someone newly awakened from cryo-stasis.

If the former proves true then the character may be shocked to discover how vast Wayward Pines has changed and that David Pilcher (Toby Jones) is dead. If it proves to be the latter then the series may be able to replicate the first half of season 1 by allowing this new character to discover Wayward Pines similarly to how Ethan Burke did.
