Details about the upcoming second season of Fox's top-rating summer thriller "Wayward Pines" were released days after the network announced the show's premiere date.

During Saturday's WonderCon in Los Angeles, the first look at "Wayward Pines" season 2 and details about the show's upcoming installment were dropped.

In the featurette, executive producer M. Night Shyamalan and co-producer and book author Blake Crouch talked about the plot that they developed for season 2.

According to Crouch, they initially planned to create a 10-episode arc for the first season of "Wayward Pines," but they were surprised with the amazing reception from the audience and critics alike. He and Shyamalan agreed to create a second season for the series if they could come up with an amazing story for the show.

Shyamalan, on the other hand, revealed that it will be important to watch the first season of the series so viewers can have an idea about the upcoming season 2.

"We came up with an end that we thought was really, really exciting and worked backward from there. [We told the network that] we would love to do a second season because we feel like the story is going to end at a particular point," Shyamalan said.

Meanwhile, executive producers Donald De Line and Ashwin Rajan also talked about the details of the story of the show's sophomore season during the WonderCon Press Day. According Rajan, season 2 is not a reboot because it continues the story left at the end of season 1.

"When we woke up Charlie Tahan in the hospital at the end of season 1, it was about three years after the invasion of the town by the Abbies. This second season picks up three months after that," De Line said, as reported by Collider.

"Wayward Pines" season 2 will feature "Rush" star Jason Patric as new Wayward Pines resident Theo Yedlin, who has just woken up from his suspended animation in the middle of a big rebellion.

Patric will be joined by award-winning actors Djimon Hounsou and Hope Davis. Several season 1 cast members will reprise their roles in the upcoming season, including Terrence Howard, who will reprise his role as Sheriff Arnold Pope; Carla Gugino as Kate Hewson; Melissa Leo as Nurse Pam; Toby Jones as Dr. Jenkins; Charlie Tahan as Ben Burke; and Shannyn Sossamon as Theresa Burke.

"Wayward Pine" season 2 is slated to premiere on May 25.
