A lot of fans are wondering whether or not the "Wayward Pines" will have its third season green-lit. However, there has been a lot of red flags being raised lately, and in fact it could be possible that the show might not be renewed.

According to Movie News Guide, it is still unknown whether or not the the third season of this show will happen. The viewers have seen the crew fall into a deep sleep, and a lot of people wonder if they will ever wake up at all. Also, the confusing cliffhanger showing that a baby Abbey does not look like her own kind is not enough to guarantee that a third season will be in order.

After all, M. Night Shyamalan has explained that the second season's ending can stand on its own, regardless of whether or not a third season will be in order. Furthermore, The Bitbag also explains that this, coupled with a lot of other reasons, may spell out why the third season of the "Wayward Pines" might not materialize.

Primarily, hard numbers determine how likely a show will get another season. The same article points out that the second season of this show was not able to get enough viewers to stay on air, with its finale getting only about 2.3 million viewers, with the whole season getting only approximately 2.4 million alone. As such, compared to its first season, its performance decreased by 36 percent, which the network certainly does not approve.

Furthermore, there are no more major characters to return to. After all, everyone, except Adam Hassler, has been killed off. The only way a third season will be greenlit is for Hassler to bring in something really big, which is highly unlikely considering the show's direction now.

Right now, there is no official word about the third season of the "Wayward Pines," so fans should just stay tuned for more updates.
