The resurgence of women fighting supernatural forces will be coming via "Wayward Sisters," the female-driven "Supernatural" spin-off series scheduled to air next year.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the show's executive producer Andrew Dabb said, "This is an opportunity to do something in the world of 'Supernatural' that has some of the sensibilities of 'Supernatural' but addresses a lot of issues, scenarios, and characters that are very different."

"Wayward Sisters" will focus on the story of a group of women who have met tragedies in a supernatural way. Kathryn Love Newton plays Claire Novak, daughter of Jim Novak from "Supernatural." She is being looked after by sheriffs Jody Mills (Kim Rhodes) and Donna Hanscum (Briana Buckmaster).

All three women were in "Supernatural" and have appeared throughout the different seasons of the show. In the spin-off series "Wayward Sisters," they women will band together to form a monster-slaying squad.

Robert Berens, who is co-executive producer of the show, said that the series will start with Claire as she returns home. After experiencing life on her own and venturing out into the unknown, a crisis will yank her back into the Wayward family.

Though "Wayward Sisters" will share a similar tone to its parent show "Supernatural," it will be deeply rooted in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Dabb said that the writing team chose to have the characters settle down in one particular location so that the show can build a sense of community and allow the characters to have lives and go through things like romance and rivalry.

Rhodes clarified that "Wayward Sisters" is not "'Supernatural" with girls but rather, '"Supernatural" with heroes that happen to be female. She added that they will explain to the viewers in due time why the lead stars from "Supernatural" will not be visiting to help them in their fight. But the invitation will always be open for them.
